What a 3-6th grade elementary school student says about ...

The Legend of Halloween

Pumpkin in Halloween:

Once upon a time, in the Far East, there were two Kings.
Their names, one was Pump and the other was Kin.
Pump was the Pump Loo King’s boy.
Kin was the Kin lou King’s girl.
Pumps worked on their farms.
Kins worked in their shops.
They hated each other for so many years.
And they cursed each other in so many ways.

One day, they were struck with a dry year.
The Pumps couldn’t farm any more.
Nor the Kins could do any works.
Pump and Kin had no choice, but talk to each other.
May be, they can find a way to stand the year.

As their talk took place, it went so smooth.
The more they talked, the more they liked it.
By and by, they fell in love.
Their love was so lofty, that they got marry on October 31, many years ago.
Their folks named them “Pump and Kin.”

But that was not all.
They were lovers in so many ways.
So, they burned the “and” into the ashes by their flame of love. (Pump and Kin - Pumpkin)
And it was their love which made fruit from their ashes.
So their folks could eat and survive the year.
The fruit was named after their names, and for all of us know what it was the name. (Pumpkin)

To bring to mind, each year, in this month, we honor their loves.
The fruit is core!
The candle in it is a sign of hope, which turns to ashes by the flame of love.
The dread we have, is sign of fear, that their folks faced it on those evil days.
That’s all that I can say about this day (Halloween) and its reason that we have Pumpkins to honor their names.
