Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, a disease that attacks
the lining of the lungs, the abdomen, or the heart. Mesothelioma is
deadly such that the average life span is six months for those
diagnosed with the disease. About three thousands (3,000) Americans
are stricken with this form of cancer every year. Most people who
are inflicted with this form of cancer have been around asbestos.
Often it is those who have worked around asbestos, being exposed to
its harmful effect.
According to Environmental Protection Agency, the reason why asbestos is
dangerous is because asbestos is made up of microscopic bundles of
fibers that may become airborne when distributed and it is well
documented that breathing asbestos fibers increases the risk of
cancer in people. Essentially, asbestos is a human carcinogen. For
more information on asbestos, please visit Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) at their website, www.epa.gov. Direct link to
information on asbestos is at http://www.epa.gov/asbestos/asbe.pdf.
Often time, being diagnosed with mesothelioma does not occur until 20-30
years later after being exposed to asbestos. The reason for this is
mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose due to its common symptoms
that cannot be easily attributed mesothelioma. In order to be
completely sure of whether or not you have the diseases, you need
ask your health care provide to specifically diagnose for
mesothelioma if you think you have been exposed to a high level of
asbestos. It is best to do it as soon as possible, because according
to many medical scientists, malignant mesothelioma is incurable.
Most people diagnosed with mesothelioma die from the disease within
two years after diagnosis.
For those who have worked for an industry that requires being exposed to
asbestos, if you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may want
to talk to a lawyer who deals specifically with this deadly disease.
You may be compensated for the illness.
Industries have known for a long time of the deadly
consequence of asbestos and yet choose to do nothing about it. They
made millions if not billions of dollars off the back of those who
have been exposed to asbestos. Some of them even went as far as to
hide the truth. Because of the latency period of being exposed to
asbestos to the time being diagnosed with mesothelioma, many
industries have gotten away with it. To make sure that those
industries do not get away with it, look into getting an attorney,
you may get some form of compensations from the industries.
